Some alleged armed robbers were killed by the SWAT Division of the Kumasi divisional Police of the Ashanti Region, in response to the killing of a team member by name, Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku, at Manso Nkwanta last week.
The Cop who was travelling together with his colleague by name Lance Corporal Eric Nsiah in a sprinter bus with Registration number AC -644-15, were ambushed by armed robbers wielding AK 47 assault rifles and pump action guns, attacked not only the police officers but other passengers as well.
Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku died instantly as the other surviving but injured passengers , were rushed to St. Martins hospital in Agroyesum, where he was treated and discharged.
This action really angered the SWAT and they wasted no time to take revenge back as they engaged and killed seven men in a Salon car which they tagged as armed robbers who wielded heavy and powerful guns going on a robbery operation.
The killing has really generated excessive outbursts from the Zongo youth of Sawaba, Asawasi, Aboabo, Moshie Zongo and Asokore Mampong, as they claimed the men killed were not armed robbers but were honorable men that had jobs and family. It took the intervention of the Zongo leaders that calmed them down, they would have gone on a demonstration.
The MP for Asawasi Constituency, Honourable Mutaka Mubarak has petitioned the General Police Service to probe into the issue thoroughly as he believes these men were not armed robbers.
Some members of the deceased were identified as members of NPP’s Delta Force, a political vigilante group.
