Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, Reggae/Dancehall Act Of The Year Category, Vodafone Ghana Music Awards

Over 48 hours since this year’s Nominee’s for the 2021 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was released, the scheme has received criticisms from most stakeholders within the music space.

Showbiz critic and writer for Entertainment Ghana,  Arnold Asamoah Baidoo is of the view that the Reggae Dancehall Artiste and song Category for this year’s award scheme is very weak.

According to him, the nominees under that category are not competitive enough. He argued that per the definition of that category, most of the artiste and songs that secured a nomination do not fit in.

It is too light is an understatement, that category is overly weak.  Award schemes are supposed to be competitive but this is weak.

Although Samini is in there he is just one of a kind there.

In matters relating to award schemes, it is always important to look at the category definition and when you look at the definition for Reggae Dancehall artiste and song category you realize that most of the songs don’t fit the criteria.

How many of the songs listed there really came close to being the most popular for the year and how many generated the most excitement in the year under review.

Look at the list there how many were close. Clearly, I mean spot on it is easy to say those two are weak categories,” he added.

The Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the year category comprises off, J Derobie, Ak Songtress, Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Jupitar, and Samini.

That of the best Reggae Dancehall song of the year category was Ras kuuku’s Me Mpaebo, J Derobie’s Poverty, Resolution from Episode, Stamina from Ak songstress and Reggae from Article one.
