Multiple award winning dancehall artiste, Livingstone Etse Satekla, best known as Stonebwoy has advised fans who support artistes to back their support with actions and not just shouts.
Ghanaians have in the past months been crying for ‘Support Your Own‘ which simply means supporting everything Ghanaian that is creative, but well, will this support actually help the artiste if there’s no money for him or her?
For Stone, action speaks louder than mere words.
After series of tweets, facebook posts, whatsapp broadcasts and other online promotions by fans, artistes need revenue, and supporting your own according to Stonebwoy is not all about tweeting and sharing artworks on facebook.
The ‘Baafira’ hitmaker Sunday in an interview with Hitz Fm encouraged his fans and fans of other artistes to do more. Though he appreciates the efforts and support his fans have given him over the years, Stonebwoy asked fans to have a better definition for ‘Support your own’.
According to Stone, supporting your own is not all about tweeting and shouting, but rather streaming, buying songs of artistes and contributing to the finances of an artiste so he/she can produce more songs for his/her consumers.
“You guys play a role like we always say. We love you guys and we know you guys support us, but it is not only about fans, we need you guys to purchase our songs. That is the way you can support our hard earned music”, he said.
He added that in as much as he appreciates his fans, for the industry to grow, fans must support not just with words but with actions.
“When we say support, we don’t mean by just shouting or tweeting my name but by streaming and by purchasing our songs online because we don’t do this for free”, he added.
He revealed that some people don’t know what they support, he went forth to educate fans that supporting means investing in the artiste’s craft to put him on the level that you want to see.
