Yesterday, a coalition of Pre-tertiary teacher unions has urged the government to suspend this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The West African Examination Council has released a memorandum to suspend the incoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to be written by the 2020 SHS final year students across the Africa.
According to the statement captured by GhKasa.com, it comes after President Akufo-Addo announced a ban on all public gatherings across the country as a measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Our memorandum referenced REG.4.01WASSCE/XXIU202 dated March 19. 2020 on the above-mentioned subject refers.
The negative impact of the novel and deadly COVID-l9 pandemic and the subsequent protocols put in place by governments of member countries to prevent the spread of the disease have serious implications for the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates,2020 as agreed by the National Offices.
Please note that the proposal from the Secretariat on the need to reschedule WASSCE (SC) 2020 was approved by the Chairman of Council.
Consequently, the Registrar hereby directs that
- The WASSCE (SC) 2020Timetable be suspended until further notice;
- The conduct of WASSCE (SC) 2020be put on hold until further notice;
- Directives (1) and (2) will be reviewed when the health situation improves.
