Award-winning Ghanaian-International actor Abraham Attah who gained international prominence after playing a lead role alongside Idris Elba in the movie “Beasts of No Nation” has said he would star in Ghanaian movies only if they have a future.
In an interview with Abeiku Santana on UTV’s Popular “Atuu” show, he Hollywood actor revealed that he will only feature in local movies if they have a future and would be uploaded on international platforms.
Abraham Attah gained international prominence playing lead role alongside Idris Elba in the movie Beasts of No Nation directed by Emmy Award-winning Cary Fukunaga.
The young actor was asked if he will feature in our local Ghanaian movies (Ghallywood & Kumawood), and in answering the question, he disclosed that local producers must try and make their movies available on Netflix.
“I haven’t gotten any script from any Ghanaian director but should they need my services to feature in a local movie, that movie should have a future and should be on an international platform like netflix. I have a manager in Ghana and in USA who send me scripts if only the movie is good.” Abraham Attah answered.
The young actor also disclosed that most of the movies here have no future and it’s because they are not featured on Netflix, subscription-based streaming services where movies are stored for online streaming of a film library.
He won Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor at Venice Film Festival 2015, ‘Best Male Lead’ award at the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards, and also Rising Star Award’ at the Black Fim Critics Circle (BFCC). The award scheme called Attah’s role as “one of the strongest and most phenomenal we have ever seen” and added that he had “a very bright future ahead of him”.
The movie was based on the 2005 novel of the same title by Uzodinma Iweala. Shoot in Ghana, it starred Ama K. Abebrese, Fred Amugi and Grace Nortey.
