Born August 16th, Gregory Bortey Newman, known by his stage name King Promise is a hip life and afro pop singer and we celebrate him today as we look into some of the interesting tales affiliated with his career so far.
The mummy’s boy brand of King Promise has really paid of and his kind of songs are one that people can ultimately relate to.
It is of no doubt that King Promise is not awards friendly with just one award to his credit (4Syte MVA, Best Discovery Video) and looking at what happened at the 2018 VGMA awards which saw the ‘Selfish’ hitmaker lose out on 5 awards that night.
One thing that Ghanaians will forever keep in mind was how King Promise was trolled on twitter for wearing an oversized camboo.
That notwithstanding, one thing you can’t take away from the hip-life singer is his melodious voice and his style of music. He has six singles to his credit after being signed to Legacy Life Entertainment, a record label in Ghana.
Mention songs like Oh Yeah, Selfish, Hey Sexy, Thank God, CCTV, and Abena. King Promise is among a few artistes in Ghana who are doing so well with digital sales and is yet to release an Album.
He recalls his career was one he never had in mind. In an interview, King Promise revealed he always thought of being an engineer. He said he never dreamt of visiting the studios regularly like he does know, but that happened after he had accompanied a friend who was back then working on a project to the studio. At the studio the singer recalls he dropped a line or two on the song which was for his friend and that gave him the desire to chase this god-given talent.
He started his career professionally in 2016 and has since then collaborated with the likes of Joey B, Fuse ODG, Mugeez, B4Bonah, Sarkodie, Mr Eazi and Stonebwoy.
In December 2017 he shared photos of himself at his graduation at Central University speaking of how hard it was combining school with music. The photos subsequently went viral on social media.
