It’s been sometime now since Kumasi dwindled from being once the giant city that bred most A–list artistes to a very few ones.Gone were the days when the likes of Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede, Lord Kenya, Obrafour, Okomfour Kwadee, Akyeame and a host of other pioneering musicians evolved from the city.
Nowadays, music in Kumasi is not that appealing, and artistes who originally are from the city are diverging to mostly Accra(the hotcake) and others. One may ask, why has it gotten to this? Mainly the problem at hand is as a result of a large chunk of investors shying away from Kumasi to Accra, and a sizable more at the mercy of movie making.
“Kwapong Music“, a new Record label full of investors has hit the Ashanti capital to once again lift Kumasi music back to it’s feet by signing and helping up and coming artistes in the city to promote their works to the maxima.
This really is a laudable opportunity for up and coming artistes in Kumasi to promote their works. It is up to the traditional and digital media media in the city to help champion the course of uplifting Kumasi music back to it’s feet.
