From today, September 5, 2022, people whose SIM cards have not been registered will be prohibited from using certain services, including all incoming voice calls and data services.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) reached this conclusion following lengthy consultations with the nation’s telecoms firms. The move, according to the Authority, is part of punitive measures before the SIM re-registration deadline, which is set for September 30, 2022.
On Sunday, July 31, Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful announced an extension of the SIM re-registration exercise due to September 30, 2022.
The minister explained to reporters at a news conference that the extension was required due to the first difficulties faced by registrants who have not yet received or obtained their national identification cards.
