The uproar from Ghanaians after Zylofon Media’s historic concert in Nigeria has created a lot of buzz as voices share ideas with others making comments on how the Ghanaian industry can be made better for all. Legendary sound engineer and producer, Zapp Mallet has stated that Ghana’s music industry is suffering from identity crisis.
The #SupportYourOwn conversation is still on after Zylofon music signed artistes were given the cold shoulder over the weekend at the Zylofon Naija invasion inside Nigeria. There has been lot of advises on how our artistes can become popular and penetrate the markets outside Ghana.
On Day Break Hitz with Andy Dosty, the legendary producer, Zapp Mallet indicated that he is not surprised that our top notch artistes were snubbed, he explained that Ghana’s music industry is suffering from identity crisis.
“It is not surprising for me knowing what we are going through today in the music scene, I am not surprised that this is happening. I knew it was going to happen somewhere along the line but it is happening now so I am not surprised”, he stated
“It is not the matter of what they are doing wrong, it is what we need to do right. It is not they must do right, all of us must do right. This situation is not just a situation for Stonebwoy or Shatta Wale alone. It is for the whole industry to sit up again and look at the industry and try and get through the identity crisis. Because right now we don’t even know what we are doing, trust me. Maybe I am wrong but as it is now, I don’t know whether we are a nation of dancehall or a nation of afrobeats”, he told Andy Dosty
He explained that Ghanaians have lost respect because they try to sound and sing like Nigerians.
