Floods in the Ashanti Region is increasingly alarming during this year’s unceasing and consistent rains this rainy season. It got worse when it claimed thirteen lives in separate locations in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region.
Since the rains started this year, slum areas in Kumasi like Aboabo, Asawasi, Anloga junction, Sawaba,Kejetia, Oforikrom, and others got flooded. It is reported that it is through these floods that thirteen people lost their lives. These floods are hazardous to the extent where the water goes up to people’s chest above people’s chest in height variation.Over three hundred people are displaced as well as properties worth of millions in Ghana Cedis are destroyed.
The Electricity Company of Ghana have disconnected the power of these affected places to prevent electrocutions.
The K.M.A, Fire Service and NADMO have joined hands to help residents of these areas to curb the situation at hand to prevent further disasters as the rains continue to pour.
he Fire Service in an interview said, most of these floods are caused by improper disposal of sewage wastes and buildings situated in water runways.
