Author Kouri Richins charged with husband’s murder after writing a grief
A woman from Utah who wrote a children’s book on grieving after her spouse passed away unexpectedly has been charged with murder.
In March 2022, a mother-of-three named Kouri Richins called the police late at night to report that her husband, Eric Richins, was “cold to the touch.”

After making her husband a mixed vodka drink, she claimed to the police that she later discovered him unconscious.
Later, a coroner discovered that Mr. Richins had overdosed on fentanyl.
According to the medical examiner, he had five times the amount of the substance that is fatal in his system.
According to court records, Ms. Richins texted someone who had previously been detained on drug-related charges between December 2021 and February 2022 to request prescription pain medicine for an investor who had suffered a back ailment.
According to the court filings, Ms. Richins first obtained hydrocodone pills before requesting “some of the Michael Jackson stuff”—specifically, fentanyl.
After their Valentine’s Day supper, which was three days after Ms. Richins reportedly acquired the narcotics, her husband allegedly became ill.
Eric believed that he had been poisoned,” the court documents said. “Eric told a friend that he thought his wife was trying to poison him.”
According to court records, Ms. Richins purchased further fentanyl two weeks later.
According to the prosecution, Ms. Richins called the police in the middle of the night on March 4 to report that she had discovered her husband unconscious.
She claimed to have fed her husband a Moscow Mule laced with vodka in bed before putting a young child who was experiencing a night terror to sleep. Her spouse was “cold to the touch” when she subsequently went back to their room.
Two months after Ms. Richins created the picture book “Are You With Me?” to aid kids in coping with the loss of a loved one, charges have been brought against her. She said to the local radio station KPCW that she and her three sons were hoping for “peace” through the book.
We wrote this book and we’re really hoping that it provides some comfort for not just obviously, our family, but other families that are going through the same thing,” she told KPCW in an interview last month.
She titled the book “My Amazing Husband and a Wonderful Father” in honor of Mr. Richins.
Ms. Richins is accused of murder as well as illegal possession of GHB, a narcolepsy drug that is occasionally taken recreationally and referred to as a date rape drug. On May 19, a detention hearing is planned.
