“I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” is an autobiography by Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson. The book is yet to be released.
In the book, Nelson talks about her life, including her relationships, her career, and her activism. She also discusses the challenges she has faced as a woman in the entertainment industry.
Nelson has not revealed how many boyfriends she has had in the book. However, she has talked about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, rapper Micheal Owusu Addo aka Sarkodie.
Her decision to have a pregnancy terminated since the person who put her in that circumstance refused to take responsibility because he had another partner is one of the revelations in her book “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.”
According to Yvonne Nelson, the incident occurred in 2010, and the individual in question was a rapper from Tema. She described how the rapper in question was Sarkodie, a multi-award-winning and now-iconic Ghanaian singer.
“Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artists in Ghana and beyond. At the time, however, the future looked uncertain, and his way through the maze of life still appeared too foggy to predict. Success was not guaranteed. He was still living with his mother and was not ready to carry a burden while he was being carried by his mother.
“I wouldn’t call what had developed between us a serious relationship. I gravitated toward people in the music industry. For the longest time in my life, music was my getaway from all the unpleasant things life threw at me. So, I liked his talent. We started talking and got close. Closer,” parts of the book read.
As detailed in chapter 8 of her memoir, which was published on Sunday, June 18, 2023, the actress tried to have the baby by ingesting some mixtures given to her by a colleague, but to her dismay, the medicine was ineffective because pregnancy test showed she was still carrying the child.
Because she is fatherless and had not anticipated becoming pregnant with a kid whose father had refused to take responsibility, she made the decision to abort the child.
The actress described how Joel Duncan-Williams, the son of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, approached her with a marriage proposal in a pretty dramatic fashion that ended before it even began in a chapter titled “A Man’s World,” which is primarily about masculinity and the marginalization of women.
“In 2009, while I was on set shooting The Prince’s, I received a visitor. He was not my visitor, as he had come to see someone else. However, by the end of his visit, I turned out to matter more to him than the person he had come to see. This visitor, if I should call him that because of the retinue of security guards he moved with, derived his influence from the surname he carried. His name is Joel Duncan-Williams, the son of the founder and leader of Action Faith Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams. Until that day, I hadn’t known or heard about him, but I couldn’t fail to notice his imposing presence when he showed up. Before he left the movie set, he said he had fallen in love with me,” she wrote.
While she remained unsure about his proposal, the son of the archbishop went to great lengths to prove the seriousness of his love by bringing her lunch on set accompanied by his heavy security escort in a mini-convoy.
“While I was still unsure of what to tell him, his plans for marriage were far advanced. But something abruptly ended our friendship before it had the slimmest probability of developing further. He paid me a visit one evening with the usual princely entourage that I had only seen in movies featuring non-state officials. When the howling of his motorcade’s siren had adequately announced to the neighborhood that an important somebody had arrived at my household, he came in and announced his plans. He said that before the marriage could proceed, I had to go to his father to be prayed for. The purpose of that prayer was to ensure that any demons or evil spirits present in me or my family line would be cast out,” she narrated.
“I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” is a shocking and captivating narrative of a young woman who sets out to know herself but learns that she has been using a false identity.
With the exception of the protagonist, an actor, who is coping with a reality that causes her to occasionally sob into her pillow, this compelling story has all the hallmarks of a riveting movie script.
Unusual for an autobiography, the author confronts the audience in her undies. The author’s life is extensively explored throughout the book, along with the good, terrible, and ugly aspects of both her own life and the fictional world of celebrities.
