Momo to be refunded with conditions – Ursula Owusu speaks

The minister of communications and digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has stated that her office is aware of the unhappiness among Ghanaians whose SIM cards have been suspended.

At the completion of the SIM Card re-registration process on May 31, all users whose numbers could not be activated using their Ghana Cards had their numbers cancelled.

People are upset about this, especially those whose Mobile Money (MoMo) accounts had money frozen.

The MoMo accounts’ funds are not missing, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful assured MPs on June 8 during a floor speech.

She stated affected users can get their money back if they complete the proper steps, present a valid ID, and submit the necessary information.

“We are also aware of the challenges users have when trying to access the money in their mobile money wallets.

These subscribers will not be able to transact money mobile-related activities, however, we are working with the Bank of Ghana to ensure that these subscribers are able to retrieve funds upon the presentation of a valid ID and going through the required processes,” Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalization added that the National Identification Authority (NIA) is still urged to assist people in obtaining their Ghana cards so they can reregister their SIM Cards.
