Granger Smith makes u-turn in his music career

Granger Smith, a country music performer, is opening and closing doors. The 43-year-old “Backroad Song” performer has declared that his next “Like a River” tour, which begins in Wisconsin on Thursday, will be his final one.

About four years after Smith’s 3-year-old son River drowned in an accident at the family’s house, he instead intends to devote his life to the church.

I have felt a strong desire to pursue ministry,” he said in a nearly four-and-a-half minute video posted to Instagram. “And this doesn’t mean I’m going to start a church or a crusade or a revival. This means that me and my family are going to serve our local church.”

Smith said that he has been working on a book titled “Like a River” that will be released on August 1 and that he has been studying at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

It shouldn’t surprise you what that book is about, but it’s about from when I lost my son Riv to when we had Mav and everything in between that the Lord did in a radical way of opening my eyes,” he said. “And that message is so important to tell it’s the most important piece of media that I could ever release that I ever have released.”

Smith stated shortly after his son’s passing that he thought his son had only three years left on Earth and that it gives him some peace of mind knowing that River made the most of those years.

Smith and his wife, Amber, said they leaned on the assistance of families who had experienced comparable losses and hoped to one day assist other grieving parents in finding the light in the shadows.

Smith said on Instagram that the video was difficult to post.

The words for this caption are so hard to find. Not because I don’t believe in the truth of them, but because this marks the end of the longest era in my life! Touring…24 years of it,” he wrote.

“I am so encouraged and hopeful and excited and joyful about the next chapter, but to a large extent, I have no idea what it will look like,” he continued. “I just want to glorify God the best way that I can.”

Smith said he doesn’t anticipate everyone would concur with his choice.
But, he promised to make an effort to be on hand to respond to any queries.
Smith informed his followers that he was not leaving, but he did want to discuss his plans for the future.
