About EKEDC

The National Electric Power Authority was abolished in March 2005 as a result of the Energy Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) (NEPA).

Under NEPA, the three corporate operations of power generation, transmission, and distribution were combined but later divided.

Eleven businesses with permits to provide power to customers emerged in the distribution network, including Eko Disco.

Nevertheless, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), which was later unbundled in 2013 when electricity generation and distribution were further privatized giving investors greater or whole ownership, was the umbrella organization for these businesses.

Based on these changes, Eko Electricity Distribution Plc has been successfully distributing electricity to the Agbara village in Ogun State and the southern part of Lagos State.

11 districts — Lekki, Ibeju, Islands, Orile, Ijora, Apapa, Mushin, Festac, Ojo, Ajah, and Agbara — make up these licensed areas.

The Business purchases large quantities of electricity from the Akangba, Ajah, and Ikeja West transmission facilities, receiving between 11 and 15 percent of the overall energy allotment from the national grid.

Eko Disco has a proven track record of success in the industry, especially in the distribution area. This includes providing its clients with exemplary customer service and a dependable power supply.

By becoming the first power distribution business in Nigeria to introduce the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition – Distribution Management System (SCADA-DMS) in October 2020, Eko Disco made technological history.

As a result, the Firm frequently earns excellent reviews from the industry’s governing body, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

EKEDC: experiencing a corporate turnaround

In the previous year, the ko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has made significant improvements in client and employee management, stakeholder involvement, preventive maintenance, and long-term sustainability.

A one-year status report revealed that EKEDC has experienced noticeable changes in a number of significant areas during the course of one year.

The delivery of core services, customer and community engagement, operational strategy, and strategic brand positioning have all undergone significant revisions or total overhauls, depending on the situation.

It’s been a protracted period of system and process innovation, rethinking, and optimization.
And the outcomes have been astounding.

In the past twelve months, the clientele has grown, districts have been decentralized to handle the influx of new customers and improve service, staff compensation has been reviewed upward, and a fast-delivery mass metering program (Mobile MAP Initiative) that resulted in the delivery of over 46,000 meters in 2022 alone has been launched.

In line with its four corporate social responsibility (CSR) pillars of health and wellness, sports, education, and technology, the corporation has also undertaken extensive and significant CSR projects.

Reaching out to communities and schools as well as hosting or supporting important events have all been part of CSR efforts. Experts concurred that for EKEDC, it has been a year of significant events, progress, and positioning for further advancement.

The Energy Club program was introduced in Lagos secondary schools by EKEDC and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as part of a STEM initiative to increase the interest and participation of the next generation in subjects related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Also, it gave a complete children’s playground to the Ajegunle-Apapa school, the Tolu School Complex, and the Oremeji 2 Nursery and Primary School.

Additional CSR activities included supporting the Festival of Table Tennis run by the International Table Tennis Federation, the T20 Invitational Women’s Cricket competition, and the 2022 Lagos International Polo tournament.

A number of improvements that were brought about by Dr. Tinuade Sanda’s appointment as Managing Director of the EKEDC in March 2022 are thought to have helped the organization reach new heights.

Few could have predicted when Sanda was appointed that he would take on such a lofty position with ease, that a slew of changes would soon follow, and that the country would make steady progress over the following years.
